Mill Green Museum is open four days a week.

  • Tuesday to Thursday                    10 am - 5 pm
  • Sundays and  Bank Holidays        2 pm - 5 pm
  • Friday/Saturday/Monday - closed

Admission

  • Children FREE
  • Adults £3.50
  • Entry to grounds FREE
  • Entry for one adult accompanying a child attending a paid activity (£3.00 or more) FREE

Annual Admission £20.00 *

For one adult for unlimited FREE entry to both Mill Green and Welwyn Roman Baths for twelve months.  Please support us by buying this ticket. A 50% discount is offered for a second adult living at the same address.

Milling Hours

Milling hours are subject to the demand for flour and river conditions and as a result may be longer or shorter than the hours advertised. However, our milling hours are usually;

  • Tuesday and Wednesday: 10.30 am - 3.30 pm (stopping for the Miller's lunch break between 12.30 and 1.30pm)
  • Sunday: 2.30 - 4.30pm

If you are making a special trip to see the mill working, we strongly advise that you contact the museum on 01707 357850 on the day of your visit to verify the milling times and avoid disappointment.


Facilities

  • Tea and coffee can be purchased at the museum. Ask at the reception desk.
  • There is a lovely garden for picnics, with picnic tables.
  • There is a toilet on site with disabled access and baby changing facilities.

Access

  • Car parking available with disabled spaces.
  • Entry to buildings is on the level with a slight threshold, which can be negotiated in a wheelchair.
  • Museum displays and exhibitions are on the ground floor.
  • Access to the first floor of the mill is by single flight of stairs - a video of the milling process is available for those who can't climb the stairs.
  • The garden is fully accessible for all.
  • Disabled toilet available. Our study area, used for some events has a lift for disabled access.
  • Access permitted to guide dogs only within the museum buildings.  Dogs permitted in museum gardens on a lead.  No dogs permitted in the mill or no. 6 cottage, as these are food preparation areas.

Travel By car

  • We are located just off the A414 between Hatfield and Hertford, near Welwyn Garden City in the hamlet of Mill Green.
  • If coming from the A1(M), leave at junction three or four, and follow the brown directional signs from the A1000 or the A414.
  • If finding us with an internet mapping service or satnav, you can find us by entering our postcode which is AL9 5PD.
  • We have a car park with disabled spaces.
  • More car parking is available on the generally quiet and un-restricted lane outside.

Travel By train

  • Use Hatfield Railway station.
  • We are 1 mile from Hatfield station.
  • To complete your journey, walk, take a taxi or a bus.
  • There is a taxi rank and a bus stop just outside the station.
  • Buses such as the 301, 653 or 330 are recommended.
  • Ask for a ticket to Bush Hall Hotel, which is at a junction known as Chequers, located at the end of Bush Hall Lane.  This takes about 5 minutes or less from the station.  Then walk 5 minutes down Bush Hall Lane.  Brown signs point to the museum and mill.

Travel By bus

  • Use the Traveline South East website to plan your bus journey.  Ask the driver for a ticket to Bush Hall Hotel, which is at a junction known as Chequers, located at the end of Bush Hall Lane.  Then walk 5 minutes down Bush Hall Lane.  Brown signs point to the museum and mill.

Travel By bicycle or on foot

  • Many of the smaller roads and paths nearby are pleasant for walkers and cyclists.  Why not combine your visit with a walk or ride?  We are pleased to offer dog water and have secure bike racks, as well as a delightful garden for picnics.
