Budget book

The budget book contains our revenue and capital budgets, together with other key financial information.

Jar of coins

Each year we agree a budget and prepare annual accounts. This process involves the identification of pressures for the next year, as well as the identification of savings and efficiencies. We also undertake consultation to find out what services you think the council should be spending over the coming year.

Details of our spending for last year's budget can be found in our Annual Report. We also publish Statement of Accounts.

Alternatively, previous copies of our budget book are available on request.

Each year we also provide a summary of the council's finances in the pdf icon Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council - Council Tax Information 2018 - 19 [4MB], which is distributed Council Tax bills.

Accounting practice

Local government finance is a complex subject. Financial statements must comply with appropriate accounting codes of practice.

Our cash flow is carefully monitored. Detailed cash flow projections are made to ensure that we have sufficient cash to pay for day-to-day outgoings. Any surplus cash is invested with financial institutions, which meet our 'credit worthiness criteria'.

Our financial year runs from 1 April to 31 March.
