Health Task and Finish Group

The Health Task and Finish Group works to enhance healthy living in the borough. There are two key contributors to a better quality of life: one is to improve the physical and mental health, as well as the whole person wellbeing of local people; the other is reducing health inequality in the borough.

The Health priorities

The initial priorities and objectives of the Group as set out in the Sustainable Community Strategy are:-

  • To reduce the level of smoking in the borough, by:-
    • reducing the number of smoking attributable hospital admissions in the borough
    • reducing the number of smoking attributable deaths from heart disease in the borough
    • reducing the number of smoking attributable deaths overall in the borough
  • To reduce the incidence of teenage pregnancy in the borough, by:-
    • supporting the county-wide Teenage Pregnancy Strategy in reducing the conception rate among 15-17 year olds in the borough
  • To reduce the level of child and adult obesity in the borough, by:-
    • reducing the number of children aged between 4 and 10 who are clinically diagnosed as obese in the borough
