Health and Safety - Construction Regulations
Building Regulations are legal requirements aimed at achieving adequate standards for the construction of domestic, commercial and industrial buildings. They are laid down by Parliament and are supported by separate documents containing practical and technical guidance on compliance, which are known as 'Approved Documents'. These are produced in different parts.
Public Health - cooling tower notification
All premises where cooling towers and evaporative condensers are situated must register with the local authority under The Notification of Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condensers Regulations 1992.

Regulation, inspection and enforcement
The council's Health and Safety Unit operates within an agreed enforcement policy. It carries out regular checks on offices, shops, warehouses, places used for leisure activities and other non-industrial premises. (The Health and Safety Executive deal with factories and other industrial operations.) This ensures that safe and healthy working conditions are provided for all employees, the self-employed and members of the public visiting these premises.

Welwyn Hatfield Safety Advisory Team (WHSAT) is a multi-disciplinary group that meets on an ad-hoc basis to advise on planning for major events that may take place within the borough.
