Do you have any concerns about safety issues in your neighbourhood? Do you know who to talk to?

On Tuesday 18 September 2007 partners from the Welwyn Hatfield Community Safety Partnership (CSP) were out and about knocking on doors and meeting residents around the Windsor Road area in Welwyn Village.
Residents were able to talk to officers from the Fire & Rescue Service, Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council and Hertfordshire Constabulary and tell them about issues that impact on their quality of life. The officers gave advice about protecting properties and belongings, and residents could sign up to free fire Home Safety Checks offered by the Fire Service. In addition, a Fire Information Unit was parked nearby for residents to drop in and ask questions or raise any issues.
Councillor Richard Smith, the Chair of the Welwyn Hatfield Community Safety Partnership, said: “These community involvement events, organised by the Community Safety Partnership, have been running successfully for over a year now. They provide residents with a great chance to speak face-to-face with the people who work together to make theirs a safer, stronger neighbourhood. I would like to thank the Hertfordshire Constabulary, Fire Service and Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council for organising and running this important event.”

Local resident, Mrs West, said: “Although this is a safe and pleasant place to live, these visits are a good idea as we didn’t know we could have a free fire safety check and I’m also pleased to hear a neighbourhood watch scheme is planned for the area.”
This event is one of a series partly funded by the Home Office Safer Stronger Communities Fund. For more information on the CSP please contact feelsafe@welhat.gov.uk.
