Welwyn Hatfield’s Community Safety Partnership (CSP) – your partners for a safer, stronger neighbourhood – was out in force on Saturday 15 December outside the Howard Centre in Welwyn Garden City, encouraging residents to stay safe this Christmas.

The CSP offered simple advice to people on keeping themselves and their presents safe this year. They also gave advice on how to prevent car crime and burglary, fire safety, domestic violence and how enjoy your Christmas party but keep out of trouble.

As well as interactive stalls including a fire engine, a police car and a street warden van, people attending were asked to complete a simple questionnaire which was designed to get them thinking about Christmas safety. In return they received free Christmas safety gifts and a Christmas card from the CSP which contained tips about Christmas safety.

Carol singers from Herts International Church added to the festive feel and representatives from Hertfordshire Constabulary, Hertfordshire Fire Service, Victim Support, the Domestic Violence Forum, SAFE (Hertfordshire Home Safety and Security Service) and the borough council’s street wardens were also on hand with safety advice.

County Councillor Richard Smith, Chair of the CSP, said: “The turn out on Saturday was great to see and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, as well as picking up useful Christmas safety tips. I know these events take a lot of work to put together and I must thank Welwyn Hatfield Community Safety Unit Sergeant Lara Stevenson from Hertfordshire Constabulary, CSP Coordinator Jay Patel from Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, Welwyn Garden City Fire Station Commander Tony Morrison and Anti-Social Behaviour Manager Kerry Clare from Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council for all their work in pulling the event together. Thanks also go to the fire crew at Welwyn Garden City who spent an evening wrapping all the free gifts!”
