What matters most to you about staying safe and feeling safe in the borough? Which community safety issues are you concerned about?

The Welwyn Hatfield Community Safety Partnership (CSP) – your partners for a safer, stronger neighbourhood – is consulting on what you think their priorities should be in the coming years.
They have produced a handy four page leaflet which sets out what the CSP believes to be priority areas of work, which are:
- Reduce crime
- Reduce the damage done to communities by the misuse of drugs
- Reduce anti-social behaviour and alcohol-related disorder
- Increase feelings of safety and build confidence
Included in the leaflet are also details of some of the excellent work and initiatives that the partners in the CSP have been responsible for in the last few years. This includes community involvement events around the borough, the introduction of more Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), setting up positive activities for younger people (such as the Moonlight Football scheme), and the Phoenix project to reduce fire hazards.
County Councillor Richard Smith, the Chair of the Welwyn Hatfield Community Safety Partnership, said: “A partnership approach is exactly what is needed to combat crime and I believe the fantastic results – crime in the borough has dropped by a quarter since 2004 – prove how effective the partnership has been. In fact, Welwyn Hatfield’s CSP was recently singled out for praise by the Home Office for its outstanding work.
“But we aren’t going to rest on our laurels! We now need to know if you think the targets we’re setting ourselves for the coming years are the right ones. Please take a moment to respond to the consultation and help us to help you.”
Consultation leaflets and questionnaires are available from council, police and library receptions throughout the borough. They can also be downloaded from the Welwyn Hatfield Alliance’s website:
