State of the Borough Debate Summary

A brief summary of the Borough Debate that took place in September 2006.

Councillors, officers and residents got together on Thursday 21 September for the council’s State of the Borough Debate.

The debate was the culmination of the summer public meetings which saw the council consulting face-to-face with residents on future policies and priorities.

The evening started with a formal ‘Question Time’ session with a panel of Councillors and Chief Officers being quizzed by the public. Questions ranged from parking on grass verges to funding for community events.

Residents then had the chance to break into smaller groups and discuss areas of concern, in relation to the five promises in the Corporate Plan.

Councillor John Dean, Leader of the Council, said: “The summer meetings have been very useful – it’s vital that we know what the public wants the council to deliver. I’d like to thank the residents and fellow councillors who gave up their time to attend, and I must also thank the council officers who worked so hard to get these events off the ground. I look forward to attending similar events next year, when hopefully we can draw in even bigger crowds.”

Feedback from the meeting will be sent to all those who attended and will also be posted on this page once they have been compiled.
