Data Protection Act
The Data Protection Act 1998 which replaced the 1984 Act received Royal assent on 16th July 1998 and came fully into force in 1999.
Environmental Information Regulations
The Environmental Information Regulations came into force on 1 January 2005, replacing the previous regulations. The regulations give members of the public the right to access environmental information held by public authorities.
Freedom of Information Act
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 allows you greater access into how public organisations operate. It aims to make organisations, such as this Council, the police authority and other public organisations more accountable to the public at large. Similar acts are already in place in Australia and Ireland.
The re-use of Public Sector Information
On 1 July 2005 a new European Directive came into force, namely the re-use of Public Sector Information Regulations. The directive allows interested parties to apply to re-use information held by the Council.
