Review of Polling Districts and Polling Places

The council is conducting a review of polling districts and polling places in accordance with the 2006 Regulations.

The Electoral Commission have adopted the final recommendations of the Boundary Committee for England following their Further Electoral Review of Welwyn Hatfield.

As a result of the boundary changes the Returning Officer has a statutory duty to carry out a periodic review of the polling districts and polling places under his jurisdiction. The purpose of the review is to:

  1. seek to ensure that all electors have such reasonable facilities for voting as are practicable and
  2. seek to ensure that so far as is reasonable and practicable, the polling places designated are accessible to all electors, including those who are disabled.

When designating a polling place, consideration must be given to the accessibility needs of disabled persons.

The Returning Officer has adopted the polling scheme which was piloted at the local elections on 1 May 2008 and welcomes representations from key stakeholders, interested groups and organisations or individuals on the appropriateness of the polling places and any other comments on the scheme in general.  Electorate figures are based on 1 February 2008.

Representations should be submitted to the Electoral Services Officer at the address below or emailed to elections@welhat.gov.uk by Friday 30 May 2008.  All submissions will be available for inspection and the Returning Officer will publicise the outcome of the consultation and pilot scheme by 21 July 2008.
