Cllr Carl Storer, Mayor Elect of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, held a lunch meeting for representatives of the charities he will be supporting during his forthcoming year as Mayor on Tuesday 15 May.
Cllr Storer has chosen to support two charitable organisations during his year as Mayor. They are Relate Herts Central, and the Barn Theatre Youth Group.
Representatives from the two charities joined Cllr Storer and Cllr John Hawkins in the Conference room at the council offices in Welwyn Garden City.
Sue Andrew, Director of Relate Herts Central, said: “We are delighted that Cllr Storer has chosen Relate as one of his charities for the year. He is very supportive of our work, as are Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council. His support will enable us to continue to provide relationship and family counselling and sex therapy for residents of Welwyn Hatfield.”
Keith Thompson, chairman of the Barn Theatre, Said: “We are delighted that the Mayor is supporting the Barn Theatre Trust's youth groups. Training in theatre arts improves young people’s self esteem and confidence. At the Barn we can extend that opportunity to many young people in the area and especially to those who might not otherwise be able to afford it. The contribution from the Mayor's fund will help us to pay specialist teachers and will support our expanding workshop programme, so more young people can benefit from high standards of theatre training."
Cllr Storer said: “I have chosen to support the two charities because I believe Relate provide a service that helps a great number of individuals and families by improving their relationships. The Barn Theatre Youth Group offer young people a great outlet for their creative talents and help aspiring thespians to get ahead in what can be a difficult career.”
