Shopmobility, the service which offers the free use of wheelchairs and mobility scooters in the borough’s town centres, have presented a cheque for £700 towards the Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council’s Charity Appeal.
The presentation took place at the Howard Centre, where Shopmobility’s Welwyn Garden City branch is located, on Wednesday 25 April.
The donation will go towards Councillor John Hawkins’ charities, the local branches of Macmillan Cancer Support and the Alzheimer’s Society.
Although Shopmobility is a free service, people who borrow the wheelchairs and scooters expressed a wish to make a donation to the service as a gesture of thanks. To accommodate this, a donation box was installed at each of the Shopmobility units where people could leave a cash donation at their discretion. During the past year Shopmobility have raised £700 towards the Mayor’s Charity Appeal.
Councillor Hawkins said: “I would like to extend my thanks to Shopmobility for their donation towards my Mayor’s Charity Appeal. They provide an excellent charitable service in their own right, and to donate to others’ charities is splendid and should be applauded.”
