14/07/2006 - Mayor to Meet Visiting Students

Mayor John Hawkins will meet students from the Canary Islands at an event in the Council Chamber on Monday 24 July.

The 30 students, who are mainly from Tenerife and Gran Canaria, are taking part in a month-long intensive language course and are staying with volunteer host families in Welwyn Hatfield.

Two students will dress in the typical costume of Tenerife and there will be an exchange of small gifts.

The students are from the Children in Britain Language School in the Canary Islands.

Councillor Hawkins said: “This is the 25th year that students have travelled to the Borough from the Canary Islands; I am really looking forward to their visit to the Council. I would like to thank the host families who so generously offer the students somewhere to stay and I hope that we continue to be so hospitable.”
