Exhumations
Did you know that an Environmental Health Officer is often present at an exhumation?
Home Office permission is needed to exhume a body. Once this licence is obtained it will state who has to be present at the exhumation. This is often an Environmental Health Officer along with a representative from the Coroner's Office.
An Environmental Health Officer also has to be present at the sealing of a coffin (exhumed or otherwise) before it is sent abroad to be buried. The Officer is required to certify that the deceased is not carrying any disease likely to cause a pandemic outbreak.
