Charges for brown bins planned

News Item Details

Date
2.39pm, 4 December 2007

As of 1 January 2008, Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council will introduce a charge for replacement brown bins required by residents.

Requests for replacement bins are received regularly by the Council, up to ten a day. To meet this additional demand, the council would have to add £50,000 to the 2008/09 waste budget – this is the equivalent of a one per cent growth in council tax.

With this in mind, a charge for new or replacement brown bins will be introduced from 1 January 2008. The charge will be £43.50, inclusive of VAT and delivery, and will cover the cost of providing the bin to the resident.

Bins will still be provided free of charge, where the resident can prove that certain conditions apply.

To apply for a brown bin, please contact us 01707 379175. More information on how to apply will shortly be available on the council website.
