Serco have taken delivery of two new HAKO 1200 ride-on street sweepers which have replaced the old push-along green machines.

The new vehicles have been purchased in order provide a more efficient street cleansing service.  In addition to servicing the Hatfield and Welwyn Garden City town centres, the HAKOs will also operate in the shopping parades throughout the borough. The vehicles are highly manoeuvrable and are designed for use on roads, pavements and parades.

Mark Gilham, Serco Contract Manager said, “Not only are the HAKOs more effective than the old green machines, particularly in preventing the accumulation of weed growth in gulleys and  pavements, but the cabs provide a weather-proof working environment for our colleagues.”

Cllr Alan Franey, Welwyn Hatfield Council’s Executive Member the Environment, said: “It is great to see that the partnership with Serco is helping to further improve our environmental and cleansing standards."
