Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council will be re-pruning the lime trees along Parkway and Howardsgate, Welwyn Garden City during September 2007.
A spokesman for the Council’s Tree and Landscape Office said that re-pruning the 199 Limes is carried out every 4-5 years and is essential in order to maintain the trees at a reasonable size and prevent them interfering with traffic. It also allows light to reach the roses and shrubs beneath them and stops branches becoming too heavy and breaking.
“Although the trees do look very bare after pruning they will re-grow very quickly. We always get calls from anxious residents following this type of work but we would like to reassure everyone that they will quickly return to their natural state”
