Welwyn Hatfield Council is one of many organisations in the local area that will work in partnership should avian flu affect the district. Guidelines for how to deal with avian flu have already been issued by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

Avian flu is a disease of birds. Animal Health Officers from Hertfordshire County Council are responsible for advising local poultry farmers and anyone visiting farms or public areas with wild fowl.

Welwyn Hatfield Council and Finesse Leisure Partnership are following the recommended Defra guidelines for the surveillance of animals on all council-owned sites. They are currently working together to devise a collective course of action should avian flu affect the district.
