Smoke Nuisance
Welwyn Hatfield borough is not a smoke control area and there are no by-laws regarding the times that residents may have bonfires.
However, only garden waste (such as grass and hedge trimmings) should be burnt. No products that may cause dark, noxious smoke may be burnt on a bonfire. Environmental Health can write to those who are burning such products or having frequent bonfires that cause a nuisance to nearby residents, enclosing a leaflet giving advice regarding other methods of disposal.
Open coal or wood burning fires are permitted within the borough.
The height of industrial chimneys are governed by law.
