Recycling centres

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council provides several recycling centres across the borough. There are also a number of Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) provided by Hertfordshire County Council throughout the county.

Household Waste and Recycling Centres

The Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) are managed by Hertfordshire County Council.

The county's Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) are managed by Hertfordshire County Council. The Cole Green Site (on the A414 between Hatfield and Hertford) is usually the closest centre for Welwyn Hatfield residents. For more information on opening times and what you can take to this and other HWRCs, please visit the WasteAware website.

Building/construction materials

As a concession to domestic properties, HWRCs will accept a small quantity of building waste free of charge. This small quantity is defined as the amount that would fit into the boot of a normal saloon car in a single visit.

Asbestos and tyres

Asbestos and tyres have to be specially disposed of and Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council does not have the required disposal licence to manage them. For more information please contact the WasteAware helpline at Hertfordshire County Council on 08457 425000. They can also supply a list of contractors who dispose of these types of materials.

All of Hertfordshire County Council’s HWRC can accept small amounts of tyres from domestic properties or often you can take them to a local garage for a small disposal charge.
