Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council
Recycling centres
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council provides several recycling centres across the borough. There are also a number of Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) provided by Hertfordshire County Council throughout the county.
Things to remember when recycling
Please note the following guidance when using the recycling banks.
- When recycling glass, please don't attempt to recycle glass products other than bottles and jars as they are made using a different process to glass containers.
- Ensure you wash and sort your glass bottles and jars by colour, clear and brown (small amounts of blue glass can go in the green bank). This glass is recycled back into glass containers, and mixing the colours can contaminate the glass to the extent that it has to be thrown away!
- Please do not use the bottle banks late at night or early morning as the noise could disturb nearby residents.
- Crush cans and plastic bottles where possible so more can fit into the banks.
- Please do not leave excess recyclables around the recycling banks if they are full - more often than not these are cleared by our cleansing teams and will not therefore be recycled.
- If a recycling bank appears to have had a missed collection, please inform us via the contact centre and we will advise our contractors.
