The environmental health service inspects all places where food is prepared and sold within the borough

  • Food business - food safety - infectious diseases

    Certain infectious diseases are notifiable to the Health Authority and these are investigated by the consultant in communicable disease control (CCDC) or by officers of the local authority. We investigate food poisoning and certain other food-borne illnesses which are notifiable.

  • Food Business Registration

    Registration of establishments used for food business (including market stalls, delivery vehicles and other moveable structures) is required by law.

  • Food complaints

    If you have a complaint about food you have purchased in the borough, you may wish to complain to the organisation or business who supplied the food. Alternatively you can contact the council's Environmental Health department.

  • Food Export Certificates

    Environmental Health is able to issue food export certificates upon inspection of the supplier's premises.

    All food businesses operating in the borough are subject to a food hygiene inspection by the council’s environmental health department. On this page you can download our food hygiene standards summary for any food business operating in the borough.

  • Food sampling

    Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council views food sampling as an important aspect of its duty to protect Public Health and comply with its enforcement responsibilities relating to food law. The council is entitled to inspect and sample from any food premises/businesses in the borough.

  • Training Courses

    We offer a wide range of food hygiene and occupational health and safety training courses for managers and staff, which can be tailored to suit individual businesses.

  • Voluntary surrender of unfit food

    Food businesses with a quantity of unfit or contaminated food, for example because of a freezer breakdown, can get a certificate of voluntary surrender from the environmental health service.

  • Food business - food safety inspections

    The council carry out regular checks on all food premises to ensure the public is protected and that high standards are maintained.
