Introduction to the Enforcement Teams

Welwyn Hatfield Council is committed to tackling nuisance and anti-social behaviour around the borough, and we have several teams who work (often together) to tackle a range of problems.

The Anti-Social Behaviour Team

The Housing Landlord service has a small team dedicated to tackling the worst cases of anti-social behaviour in Welwyn Hatfield.  They are mainly committed to dealing with situations involving council tenants (both where tenants are the victims or alleged perpetrators).  However, cases often involve numerous households, including owner-occupiers and tenants of other landlords.

If you are a council tenant and are experiencing anti-social behaviour you should in the first instance report this to your Neighbourhood Housing Officer (unless the situation is an emergency, in which case you should contact the Police).  If the matter is reasonably straightforward your Housing Officer may offer some advice as to how you might settle it yourself; if not, they will investigate and take steps to resolve the problem.

More severe and/or complex cases will be discussed with the Head of Housing Management for the area, who will decide whether these need to be referred to the Anti-Social Behaviour team.

The ASB team offer a very high level of support and advice to the victims of anti-social behaviour, and matters are handled in the strictest confidence.  In dealing with the perpetrators of anti-social behaviour they take a firm but fair approach, and where troublemakers refuse to modify their behaviour the team will not hesitate to use all their powers to take action against them.

Welwyn Hatfield Street Wardens

The Warden scheme was originally set up with two Wardens to cover the Peartree and Hatfield Central wards.  However, it was such a success that additional funding was secured for another two Wardens to operate across the borough.  The funding has enabled the Wardens to have additional training - in particular on tackling drug-related problems.  You can report problems such as abandoned vehicles direct to the Street Wardens.

The Community Safety Partnership

This was developed in order to bring together a range of agencies tackling anti-social behaviour around the borough and develop a co-ordinated approach.  The Community Safety Strategy outlines the key aims of the Partnership, which include reducing crime and anti-social behaviour.
