The Council’s Chief Housing Officer (Strategic Services) presented a report to the Cabinet of Welwyn Hatfield Council on Tuesday 6 June following a successful bid for funding for affordable homes in the borough.

The purpose of the report was to provide information on the outcome of the bid and how it will affect the council’s affordable housing programme.

Welwyn Hatfield Council won an allocation of nearly £13 million from the National Affordable Housing Programme (NAHP), which was announced in April.

The allocation was one of the highest in the sub-region, which includes 15 local authorities from Hertfordshire and parts of Essex.

Affordable housing schemes already planned by the council will be taking place at Chequersfield, Clarkson Court, the site of the former Smithkline Beecham factory off The Ridgeway in Welwyn Garden City and the site of the former Hatfield Aerodrome.
