Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council announces that it has awarded a 15-year housing maintenance contract to Mears Limited. The contract is due to start on the 1 October and will bring real benefits to the tenants and leaseholders of the council.
Councillor Roger Trigg, Executive Member for Housing said: “We are proud of the condition of the homes that we manage as a council. They are among the best maintained in the country, with the third highest rating for energy efficiency. This innovative contract will enable us to continue to afford to do that into the future.
“The contract will bring together both the day-to-day responsive repairs and the planned maintenance work, ensuring that the most efficient approach to preventative maintenance is achieved. The contract enshrines a strong role for tenants in the design, improvement and monitoring of the service.”
Mears was selected following a detailed selection and was the unanimous preference of tenants, councillors and officers involved.
