Missed bins

A household refuse or recycling bin is classed as missed if it was placed on the boundary and was available at the time the collection took place.

We will return for genuine missed collections. We operate a 48 hour policy on the reporting of missed refuse and recycling. The council must be informed of a missed bin within two working days from the close of business on your collection day. For example, if your bin was missed on a Monday, we must be advised by the end of Wednesday to enable us to re-collect - Thursday will be too late.

Refuse collections (dustcart)

We apply this principle because:

  • We will return to re-collect within three working days from the time you informed us we missed it. Therefore we need to receive your report within this timeframe to make our return worthwhile before your next scheduled collection. Outside of this period, we would ask you to take your refuse/recycling in and re-present it on your next collection day.
  • Collections will be have moved on to another area of the borough and it would be very inefficient and expensive to get a freighter to return for one bin.

If you feel you have a genuine missed bin as outlined above, please fill in our online missed collection form or contact us and we will revisit to collect it.

Missed refuse can be reported from 2pm on the day of collection, missed recycling from 4pm. This is to ensure that Serco have completed their collections before they are asked to return for missed bins.

Please note, if we revisit and find your refuse/recycling is not properly placed at the boundary of your property we may be unable to collect.
