Financial Information
All aspects of the council's finances, from budgets to fees and charges.
In 2008-09 we spent £21.897 million to provide a wide range of environmental, leisure and community services. Details of our spending is detailed in the Annual Report 2008-09 [3MB]. Each year we also provide a summary of the council's finances in the Council Tax and A-Z guide 2010-11 [1MB], which is distributed Council Tax bills.
The budget book contains our revenue and capital budgets, together with other key financial information. Fees and ChargesA listing of our current fees and charges Accounting practiceLocal government finance is a complex subject. Financial statements must comply with appropriate accounting codes of practice. Each year we agree a budget and prepare annual accounts. This process involves the identification of pressures for the next year, as well as the identification of savings and efficiencies. We also undertake consultation to find out what services you think the council should be spending over the coming year. Our cash flow is carefully monitored. Detailed cash flow projections are made to ensure that we have sufficient cash to pay for day-to-day outgoings. Any surplus cash is invested with financial institutions, which meet our 'credit worthiness criteria'. Our financial year runs from 1 April to 31 March.
