Health and Safety at work

The council is responsible for enforcing Health and Safety legislation in the borough.

A collapsing support pillar

The enforcement of health and safety at work is shared between the council and The Health and Safety Executive If you are unsure as to the area of responsibility, please contact Environmental Health and Licensing Services.

Qualified inspectors regularly visit pdf icon businesses [30KB] where they ensure Health and Safety laws are understood and applied by both employers and their staff. We do not enforce Health and Safety at building sites, council owned premises, private housing or companies whose main activity is manufacturing. This is enforced by The Health and Safety Executive

Unfortunately workplace accidents occasionally occur and, when they do, our officers lead the investigation team. If you are concerned about any aspect of workplace Health and Safety within the borough, please contact us.
