Budget Consultation Report 2013/14

Between August and October 2012, residents were given the opportunity to have their say on how Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council should allocate its budget for 2013/14.

In total we had 150 responses which helped to form the 2013/14 budget and council tax. These which were approved at Full Council on Wednesday 27 February.

In brief the respondents said that:

  • They were reluctant to consider any council tax increases, but to increase income to the council by other means.
  • The areas which should receive least cuts were in Environmental Services (including street cleansing, refuse and recycling, and play areas) and Public Health and Protection.
  • The preferred options for generating additional income were the removal of council tax discount on second homes and our proposed reductions to council tax property exemptions.

As a result, we did not increase the average Band D Council Tax for 2013/14 and we implemented changes to council tax discounts and exemptions. Further information about our budget is available on the budget 2013/14 page.
