Keep Welwyn Village a Free Parking ZoneClosed 10 November 2011 PetitionThe Council are looking to introduce parking fees and restrictions for the car parks within Welwyn Village. This will have the affect of reducing the number of visitors and will have a knock on affect on the local businesses. This in turn will ultimately reduce the variety of local amenities and shops within the village. Once parking charges are introduced less visitors will stop in the village and this will inevitably result in less business. The council say these charges are necessary in order to implement improvements in the village. Surely, these improvements should be funded from the Council tax / rates as they must have in the past, otherwise how did they build the car parks in the first place? This is just another means by which the Council collect a stealth tax.
