Recycling collections
Information and guidance about the recycling collections (paper, glass and cans).
- Green recycling boxes are for paper.
- Red recycling boxes are for glass and mixed cans.
- Extra recycling can be presented in a carrier bag, or we can provide additional boxes. Please contact us to request them.
- Recycling boxes are collected fortnightly, on the alternate week to the brown bins.
- If you aren't physically able to place your recycling boxes on the boundary, you may qualify for an assisted collection
- We will return for genuine missed collections.
Our storage and presentation conditions are:- Your recycling must be contained at all times to prevent litter, it is your responsibility to pick up any resulting litter.
- Recycling should be presented for collection on the property/highway boundary no earlier than 5pm the evening before your scheduled.
- All recycling containers must be brought back within the boundary of your property. This should be done by 12 noon on the day after collection at the latest.
- Compostable waste will only be collected from WHBC brown bins. Only one bin per household will be emptied per collection. Extra garden waste must be presented in WHBC compostable sacks.
NB:
- The council may change its services and section 46 conditions (storage and presentation conditions) on household waste, including collection days. You will be notified of any changes.
- On banks holidays and in the event of unforeseen circumstances such as adverse weather, services may be disrupted.
To ensure that your boxes are emptied:- make your boxes available by 8am on collection day. Do not present your boxes any earlier than 5pm on the evening before.
- place boxes on the boundary and ensure they are clearly visible, can be reached from the road/pavement by the crew and do not obstruct the pavement.
- rinse glass and mixed cans to avoid odours and insects in hot weather.
- help us to keep our streets tidy by taking your boxes back onto your property by the morning after collection.
- present your recyclables in the appropriate container.
Recycling boxes which contain materials that we do not collect will not be emptied and the council is permitted to issue FPNs to residents who have contaminated their bins. Only put acceptable recyclables in your recycling boxes, for example: Green box - paper collectionYes please: | No thank you: |

Recycling in flats Mini recycling banks can be installed to enable residents living in flats to recycle. A suitable location will need to be found which is convenient for both residents and our recycling lorries. The mini-banks recycle paper, glass and cans. To request a mini-bank contact the council. We will then organise an inspection of the vicinity to ensure that a mini-bank can be installed. This may take some time, as we receive a large number of requests and may need to add your request to a waiting list. Please be patient. We will contact you once a decision has been made. Leasehold properties may have a management company or board, please also speak to them about your request.
