Standarised packaging of Tobacco

The Government has recently announced a public consultation about the standardised packaging of tobacco products - otherwise known as plain packaging - asking for your views. Research and large scientific surveys from around the world indicate that plain packs are less appealing; make the health warnings more effective; and stop smokers believing that some brands are less harmful than others. Every year, another 340,000 children in the UK are tempted to try smoking. And research has indicated that they are more likely to be lured by designed tobacco packs, than by plain packs. Shiny holograms, pretty pastel colours and wrappers, are just some of the eye-catching pack designs that are available.
