Environmental Network

WHEN works to improve the local environment.

What is WHEN?

image

WHEN (Welwyn Hatfield Environmental Network) is the environmental arm of the Alliance and is open to anyone who wants to get involved in addressing environmental issues in Welwyn Hatfield.

It mainly consists of voluntary groups and individuals who have a keen interest in environmental matters, and works with statutory bodies such as the borough and county councils, and the police.

What does WHEN do?

We act as an information exchange for all of the environmental groups within the borough, and also focus on practical work. When we consulted residents in the borough about environmental priorities, they told us they wanted:

  • a less polluted environment
  • less litter
  • increased recycling
  • greater civic pride
  • protected open spaces and wildlife.

Our job is to come up with projects which can address these priorities. Recently the group has organised:

  • green and organic shows in Hatfield and Welwyn Garden City
  • woodland management at Woodhall Park, Welwyn Garden City and Northaw Great Wood
  • improved recycling in Peartree Ward, Welwyn Garden City
  • the 101 tips brochure, to help you reduce your carbon footprint.

The Welwyn Hatfield volunteer litter picking group has been going since 2006. New members are always welcome and you can find more information on the WHEN website.
