Equality and DiversityWelwyn Hatfield Borough Council is committed to equality of opportunity, both as an employer and a service provider. Our Mission: "To work actively towards the elimination of barriers that prevent equality within the Borough, addressing equality of opportunity and access and individual needs in order to encourage the development of opportunities for all council employees, residents and service users."
In August 2009 the council was awarded the seal of accreditation for achieving level 3 of the Equality Standard, demonstrating its commitment to equality. In order for the council to achieve level 3 it had to satisfy the requirements of the Equality Standard under four categories: leadership and corporate commitment; community engagement and accountability; service delivery and customer care; and employment and training.
The council is an accredited member of the Two Ticks Disability Symbol which was awarded to the council by Jobcentre Plus in recognition of the commitment regarding employment, retention, training and career development of employees with disabilities. Applicants with a disability who demonstrate that they meet the essential criteria of a job will be guaranteed an interview.
The council has a scheme which covers all six equality strands (race, religion/beliefs, sexual orientation, age, gender and disability) and outlines the commitment of the council to the promotion of equality and diversity, and the direction on how this commitment will be provided.
