How to pay your Council Tax

Pay your council tax online

Our online payment system is safe and secure.

You can view your account online using our self-service portal.

Setting up Direct Debit

Direct Debit is the most efficient and convenient way to pay Council Tax.

Normally, collection will be over ten monthly instalments on the first working day of each month (April to January), but you can opt to pay on a number of different dates and you can also pay weekly if that is more convenient for you.

• If you wish to pay by Direct Debit you can either complete our  Direct Debit Mandate Form [30KB] and send it to us or you can contact us and we will take your account details. 
• If you start paying by Direct Debit part way through the financial year you will need to make sure that your payments are up to date.

Paypoint and the Post Office

• Payment in cash can be made at any PayPoint outlet and Post Office using a PayPoint card,
• Payment by cheque, using the Paypoint card, can be made at any Post Office in the UK. If you pay by cheque, please make it payable to 'POST OFFICE LTD'.

On making payment your card will be swiped and you will be issued with a printed receipt. There is no charge for using this service. PayPoint offers more places to pay and the convenience of longer opening hours to make payments. There are several PayPoint outlets in the Welwyn Hatfield borough displaying the PayPoint logo.

Telephone payment

You can pay using your debit or credit card over the telephone by calling 0845 6041064.

Postal Payments

Payments by cheque can be sent by post. Please send your instalment sheet if you require a receipt and make your cheque payable to "Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council", quoting your reference number on the back of your cheque. Please do not send cash by post.

Kiosk

Payment in cash can be made at a kiosk at the Council Offices, on The Campus, Welwyn Garden City during normal working hours.
