Forthcoming events organised by the Friends of Welwyn Hatfield Museums - all are welcome, please come along.

FORTHCOMING FRIENDS’ EVENTS

Evening talks are held in the seminar room at Mill Green Museum. Doors open at 7.30 for 8pm, and wine or soft drinks and nibbles are available.
Admission is by ticket only.
Friends are advised to purchase tickets in advance because of the strict limitation on numbers that can be admitted. Friends’ members’ tickets are £2.00; non-member tickets are £4.00 but available only during the week preceding the talk.

FRIENDS' AGM, to be held at BUSH HALL HOTEL

7.30 pm arrival and refreshments.

8 pm Annual General Meeting
followed by --
8.30 pm Talk: Jane Woolman on Corn Dollies

She will speak of the ancient history of Corn Dolly making and how the craft has spread throughout the world. Also of some of the many myths and legends that have been handed down through the ages. There will be a display of a variety of types of Corn Dollies, and she will make one on the night.

Talk: Roy Evans
on Cob, thatch, flint, tile, and timber -- the vernacular architecture of country cottages.

A journey round the counties of England, looking at all the delightful variations in cottage styles that are to be found, and reviewing how those variations may have come about.

Wednesday 19 November

Talk: Anthony Henn on Garden design

This will be a presentation of how a garden design is developed from a blank `canvas' to the finished scheme and how it is built, showing the stages of development and aftercare.

Talk: Elisabeth Barrett on the history of Ware

Ware in East Hertfordshire, on one of the country's earliest roadways where it crosses the River Lea, is one of the oldest continuously occupied sites in Western Europe. There are signs of settlements going back to the Mesolithic or Middle Stone Age, and later Iron Age fortifications, before the Romans came.
