Mill Green bread and flour: the benefits
The benefits to your health, the environment and our community from Mill Green organic wholemeal flour
Wholemeal flour by natural power

Mill Green Flour: Better for the Environment
- We use grain from organic farms, which usually have more wildlife than non-organic farms, and aim to use less energy and cause less pollution. (Organic Farming magazine, Spring 2007, p.40)
- Organic farming also provides more jobs, keeping the countryside alive, precisely because it is more labour-intensive than conventional farming. (Organic Farming magazine, Spring 2007, p.40)
- Food and farming contribute 18% of the UK greenhouse gas emissions ... over half of the emissions from farming come from nitrous oxide (310 times more powerful as a greenhouse gas than CO2), largely from the manufacture and use of nitrogen fertiliser. In contrast, organic farming uses the power of the sun to fix nitrogen naturally in plants. (Organic Farming magazine, Spring 2007, p.40)
- When you buy Mill Green flour you're also reducing food miles (pollution caused by the movement of food) because we sell nearly all our flour locally.
Mill Green Mill: the Heritage Heart of Welwyn Hatfield - Our Community
- Mill Green is proud to be the heart of heritage for Welwyn Hatfield community. We've been here nearly a thousand years in one form or another!
- We keep alive the centuries-old tradition of milling by water power. Our Millers are passionate about flour. Come and chat to them and find out for yourself.
- The historic watermill is a beautiful places to visit, and a great place to enjoy a day out with friends or family. We offer cream teas served by volunteers on Sunday afternoons, including scones made locally with our own flour, and all money raised supports the mill and museum.
