Lemsford Road Area 2

Lemsford Road Area Parking Survey - information update September 2018. This letter details the results of the parking survey with many roads choosing the option of a resident permit parking scheme. Numerous replies cited difficulty with Lemsford Road. It was difficult to travel along its length due to the high level of non-residential parking. Others reported problems in exiting minor junctions due to poor visibility and of the lack of view around bends for the same reason. Some residents complained of problems in alighting from and boarding buses where cars were parked at the stops.

Steps have therefore been taken to improve visibility splays by installing junction protection. Additional yellow lines have been inserted around certain bends to give a clear view ahead. A number of bus stop cages will also be introduced prohibiting stopping or waiting at the stops. Junction protection is also proposed along the length of Wellfield Road. The roads which have chosen to be part of a resident permit parking scheme are as follows:

Ely Close, Jasmine Gardens, Malvern Close, Oak tree Close, Stockbreach Close, Stockbreach Road, The Paddock, Wellfield Close, Wenham Place and Worcester Road.

Work will now begin on developing a traffic regulation order based upon these proposals and also upon a verge protection order.

This letter was sent to residents in Middlefield where there was no clear majority of opinion. Many complained of the existing situation in Lemsford Road. The Council have taken the view that as the roads surrounding Middlefield have chosen to be part of a resident permit parking scheme, and with the proposed changes in Lemsford Road, Middlefield would be at risk from any parking displacement. It is for this reason they have decided to include Middlefield with the other roads wishing resident permit parking.

A letter has also been sent to the residents of Town Fields, which is enclosed by Stockbreach Close and Stockbreach Road. These roads are congested for a number of reasons and both have requested to be part of a permit parking scheme. Town Fields had returned very few replies offering no direction. It too will be included in the permit parking scheme for the same reason as above.

Initial letter to residents and businesses in the Lemsford Road Area

This letter outlines the scope of the whole project, the Council are seeking views on the current parking restrictions and if changes are needed.

The Council are responding to requests to protect the verge and pavement, as more and more vehicles are using these to park on. This is making areas look unsightly and increasing the maintenance costs to the Council to repair. We will also be looking at areas which could possibly create more parking provision. However, we know this is going to limited due to lighting or other services which are normally located in verges without mentioning the trees in situ.

It also informs those directly affected of the proposal to construct a multi-storey car park on The Common surface car park, with a view to release other surface car parks which have been highlighted as possible locations for development such as housing, leisure or retail opportunities.

There are some roads are managed by Housing Associations, further consultation will be carried out to ensure residents understand the implications, if they opted out of proposals. These include but are not limited to:
