Landscape Character Assessment
The Landscape Character areas for Hertfordshire
The Hertfordshire Structure Plan approved in 1998 defines six broad Landscape Regions in the county as a framework for more detailed policies in local plans to protect distinctive landscape features and habitats. Welwyn Hatfield is located within two regions, the Central River Valley and the South Herts Plateau. A more detailed landscape character assessment of the borough has been undertaken and landscape character areas defined as part of Volume 2 of the Landscape Strategy for Hertfordshire. The boundaries of the Landscape Character Areas are shown on the Proposals Map which accompanies the District Plan.
