All of Welwyn Hatfield's land outside of the main towns and specified settlements is in the Green Belt
Although there is a need to support the diversification of the rural economy, it is essential to ensure that the open nature, visual qualities and other important attributes of the Green Belt are maintained.
Government policy on rural development is outlined in Planning Policy Guidance Notes (PPG) 2: Green Belt and Planning Policy Statement (PPS) 7: Sustainable Development in Rural Areas.
Chapter 15 of the Welwyn Hatfield District Plan contains policies relating to the rural areas outside of the main towns and specified settlements.
