District Plan Saved Policies

Following the enactment of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act in 2004 transitional arrangements automatically ‘saved’ the Welwyn Hatfield District Plan 2005 for three years from its adoption. Provisions were made in the Act for the Secretary of State to agree to the extension of those policies beyond three years.

At its meeting of 3 September 2007 this Council considered which of its policies in the District Plan it wished to save beyond April 15 2008. A request for an extension beyond three years was then submitted to the Secretary of State on 10th September 2007.

This request was agreed to and on 10 April 2008 a direction was issued by the Secretary of State under paragraph 1 (3) of Schedule 8 to the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 confirming that the following policies have been saved.

List of District Plan Saved Policies

The council chose not to save a number of policies because they simply duplicated Government policy and therefore were not necessary.

It is important to note that simply because a policy has not been saved does not mean that the policy stance of this council has changed. For clarification a schedule listing the policy and the reason for it not being saved can be accessed by downloading the following document.
