Supplementary Planning Guidance
Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) provides detailed guidance to support the policies set out in the District Plan.
Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) is consistent with national and regional planning guidance, as well as the policies set out in the Council's District Plan. Welwyn Hatfield Council currently has seven adopted SPG documents and one Statement of Council Policy (Supplementary Design Guidance)
SPG can be a material consideration for the determination of development control applications (planning applications). When making decisions on matters that come before him, the Secretary of State will give substantial weight to SPG which is derived from, and consistent with, the District Plan.
The Council's seven adopted SPGs are:
Parking Standards SPG
This SPG contains guidance on parking standards for new developments, including maximum standards for car parking and details of cycle, motorcycle and disabled provision, according to the size and type of development.
Digswell Character Appraisal
This SPG is a character appraisal of the village of Digswell. It defines the important characteristics of the settlement that should be protected and proposes guidelines, against which applications for future development in Digswell can be assessed, particularly proposals for redevelopment and infill development for new housing.
Hatfield Town Centre East Redevelopment, Revised Planning Brief (Revised July 2002, adopted September 2002)
The Revised Planning Brief sets out the overall vision for the regeneration of Hatfield Town Centre. It proposes a new town square that is surrounded by retail, leisure, housing and community facilities, providing a heart and focus for Hatfield.
Hatfield Aerodrome/British Aerospace SPG (adopted November 1999)
This SPG guides the creation of development proposals for the redevelopment of the former British Aerospace (BAe) site at Hatfield, pursuant to adopted Local Plan policies.
Queenswood School Master Planning Brief (adopted March 2003)
This SPG guides new development at Queenswood School, a major developed site within the Green Belt.
New Barnfield Master Planning Brief (adopted June 2000)
This SPG guides new development at the New Barnfield Resources Centre, a major developed site within the Green Belt.
Brookmans Park Transmitting Station SPG (adopted 12 April 1995 - currently under review)
This SPG guides new telecommunications development at Brookmans Park Transmitting Station, located within the Green Belt.
