Gypsies and Travellers
Identification of potential areas to accommodate Gypsy and Traveller pitches in Northern and Eastern Hertfordshire undertaken by Scott Wilson
Welwyn Hatfield along with Broxbourne, East Herts, North Herts, Stevenage and Hertfordshire County Council have jointly commissioned a Gypsy and Traveller Site Scoping report. The report sets out areas of search which are potentially suitable to provide Gypsy and Traveller sites in the study area. Twenty one areas of search were identified, one of which is located within Welwyn Hatfield.
The report provides a starting point for the preparation of the Local Development Framework and represents the views of independent consultants on the suitability of the potential areas of search. No decision has yet been taken by any of the partnering authorities on the suitability of areas of search identified in the report. The report has not assessed the availability of the areas of search. Availability and suitability of sites are two key tests which would need to be demonstrated when the council’s Local Development Framework is examined.
Welwyn Hatfield Council will use the report to inform the Core Strategy and Site Allocations Development Plan Documents within the Local Development Framework. In addition, the findings of the assessments will be used to inform the response to the review of the Regional Spatial Strategy for the East of England.
