Assessment of Open Space, Outdoor Sport and Recreation
The council is currently carrying out an assessment of the provision of open space, outdoor sport and recreation in the borough. The study aims to look at the quality and quantity of all open space facilities in the borough in order to establish local standards for current and future provision of open space for sport and recreation in the borough. Once agreed these standards will be included in the planning policies for Welwyn Hatfield.
We are looking at all amenity green space, allotments, cemeteries, children’s play areas, outdoor sports facilities, natural green space, parks and gardens, and civic spaces. However, the open countryside in the green belt of the borough is not included in the assessment.
We recently carried out a consultation with members of the public to help us see what you think of the quality and quantity of open space in the borough. This consultation ran for 10 weeks and closed on 30 April 2007. Thank you to everyone who responded to the consultation, your views will be useful in establishing new local standards for open space for outdoor sport and recreational facilities in Welwyn Hatfield.
We expect the assessment of open space, outdoor sport, and recreation to be completed by mid-summer 2008. In the mean time if you have any questions regarding the assessment do not hesitate to contact us on 01707 357000 or via email planningpolicy@welhat.gov.uk.
