403 Bus Service Reinstated in Great Gannett area

Welwyn Hatfield Council has welcomed the news that Arriva are to reinstate the 403 bus service in the Great Gannet area of Welwyn Garden City.

Arriva Shires and Essex revised the timetable for the 403 service during 2005.  A petition, containing approximately 200 signatures, was presented to the council on 24 October 2005 by residents concerned about the effect the revision would have on the Great Ganett and Peartree areas.

The Cabinet Planning and Transportation Panel agreed that in the light of the cuts, information should be sent to residents notifying them of alternative bus services, including the shopper hopper and dial a ride services and other local bus services. This was done and subsequently it was also agreed that a pilot project into accessibility in the Gannetts area should be jointly carried out by Welwyn Hatfield and Hertfordshire County Council. This is currently underway and it is hoped it will result in improved accessibility for local people.

Arriva have now reinstated the original service in the Ganetts area of Welwyn Garden City and the service will commence on 5 June 2006.
