Consultation Continues on Resident Permit Parking Scheme in South Hatfield

News Item Details

Date
9.26am, 31 July 2006

Earlier in the year Welwyn Hatfield Council consulted with residents on the possibility of introducing a Resident Permit Parking scheme in South Hatfield, to combat the current parking problems.

The responses to the consultation exercise have now been analysed and the main points to emerge are as follows:

* 58% of responses did not support a scheme.
* 22% of responses did support a scheme.
* 18% of responses supported a scheme but with reservations.

The response rate was 22% (1184 questionnaires were returned from approximately 5,300 sent out to properties).

However these figures only give a generalised overview of the response. Within the overall area there were sections where it was clear from the responses, that residents did not want a scheme to be progressed. The Council will therefore not be proceeding with a scheme in these sections.

In other parts of the area a reasonable level of support was expressed. It is therefore intended to ask residents in these roads whether they would support the Council developing a scheme through to the detailed design stage so that they can see plans of a scheme before coming to a decision.

The Council will be sending out a letter and questionnaire early in August, to the entire area consulted previously, to advise residents of the results of the first stage of consultation and seeking views from residents of the areas where a level of support was indicated. The Council will be asking for people to respond by the 18 September 2006. The questionnaire can also be completed online (www.welhat.gov.uk) or over the phone by calling the Contact Centre (01707 357000).
