Welwyn Hatfield Council has completed the improvements to Peartree Farm Industrial Estate, Welwyn Garden City.

The project has remedied the deterioration of the private estate that accommodates local businesses.

The work, which started in July, has seen pathways renovated, with new kerbing, road markings and lighting to improve the traffic management and parking conditions on the estate. Other improvements include acoustic screening of the estate to reduce noise pollution for nearby residents.

One of the main concerns previously was in regard to parking. This has been addressed through the introduction of licensed off street parking spaces, which are only licensed to people with premises on the estate. The final stage of this process is the implementation of a Traffic Regulation Order to place double yellow lines on the road to prevent parking problems.

A Traffic Regulation Order, which is required when introducing new yellow lines, has now (following a period of consultation) been approved without any objections. The lines will come into force from Monday 15 January 2007.

Councillor Richard Smith, Executive Member for Resources, said: “In implementing this improvement scheme the council has listened carefully to the needs of both residents and businesses. I am pleased that the council’s investment has made tangible improvements to the estate, including better value to the unit owners, better control of access, improved safety for all concerned – including the considerable number of pedestrians who pass through daily – and reduction in nuisance to the neighbours.”
