The first stage of the consultation process for the introduction of a Resident Permit Parking Scheme in South Hatfield began on 20 February 2006.
All residents living in the area, totalling around 5300 homes, have been sent letters regarding the scheme, which aims to address the problems of parking in residential areas in South Hatfield.
Residents are asked to respond to the letter by 24 March 2006 and in particular to state whether they would like a permit parking scheme in the area and if so what days of the week and times they would like the scheme to operate.
The proposed scheme, which will be the first of its kind in the district, is Welwyn Hatfield Council’s response to concerns expressed by residents who asked for action over parking problems in South Hatfield.
A petition of 2000 signatures was submitted to the council by residents who were worried by parking problems in their neighbourhoods.
The consultation, design and implementation of the Resident Permit Parking scheme, which should be in place by summer 2007, has been funded entirely by the University of Hertfordshire as part of the development of the Angerland Common Park and Ride scheme.
Mandy Perkins, Welwyn Hatfield Council’s Executive Member for Planning and Environmental Health said, “I feel a whole range of emotions about the consultation. I am anxious that people return their questionnaires; it is important that we get residents’ opinions on the scheme that would most benefit them. I am nervous because it is potentially the biggest Resident Permit Parking Scheme in Hertfordshire; however I am pleased that we are addressing a problem that has concerned us and residents for some time.”
Any residents living in South Hatfield who have not received the letter and form should ring the Council’s Contact Centre on 01707 357000 to request one or download it from the Parking section of the council website at www.welhat.gov.uk/transportstreets/parking
