Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) election

Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) are elected representatives across England and Wales.  The successful candidate in Hertfordshire will be responsible for how the area is policed; set the police budget; decide the amount of council tax charged for the police, and keep residents updated on what the local police are doing.  The PCC election was postponed from May 2020 following the coronavirus pandemic.

Hertfordshire County Council elections  

All 8 divisions will have elections.  

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council Elections

All 16 wards will have elections.  15 wards will have one seat filled, and 1 ward will have two seats filled.  There is a casual vacancy in Welham Green and Hatfield South ward following the resignation of  Jaida Caliskan.  Of the 17 seats up for election, there are 10 Conservative seats, 4 Labour seats and 3 Liberal Democrat seats.

Town and Parish Elections

There is a casual vacancy in Hatfield Central ward of Hatfield Town Council following the resignation of  Bhumika Zhaveri.

There is a casual vacancy on Northaw and Cuffley Parish Council following the resignation of Peter Dace. 

If the Town and Parish elections are contested, the poll(s) will be combined with the PCC, County Council and Borough Council elections on 6 May 2021.

Please note: if the Town and/or Parish elections are contested, a separate postal pack will be sent out to those who have a postal vote.

Applications for electoral registration

To vote in the elections you must be included in the register of electors.  If you are not already registered, you can register online using the Register to Vote - Government Website or contact Electoral Services by email: or by telephone on 01707 357300 to request an application form.

All registration applications must be received by the Electoral Registration Officer by 12 midnight on Monday 19 April 2021.

Absent Voting - by post or by proxy and application deadlines

If you are included in the Welwyn Hatfield register of electors you can apply to vote by post or by proxy. The dates and times listed below are deadlines the completed application forms must be received by the Electoral Registration Officer.  If you don't have access to a printer, you can contact Electoral Services by email: or by telephone on 01707 357300 to request an application form.  When completed the application form can be emailed as an attachment to or sent by post to The Electoral Registration Officer, Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, The Campus, Welwyn Garden City AL8 6AE.

* An emergency proxy may be granted where the emergency has occurred after 5pm on Tuesday 27 April 2021 on the grounds of a physical incapacity, for work/service reasons or attendance at a training or educational course.  All applications must be received by the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Thursday 6 May 2021.  Please contact Electoral Services on 01707 357300 for advice if this is required.
