The council has completed an assessment of the capacity of the landscape to accommodate future growth in Green Belt and safeguarded land locations in the borough.

Landscape capacity describes the ability of a landscape to accommodate different amounts of development. It encompasses both the sensitivity of the landscape to change and its value.

The methodology for this study is based on 'Topic Paper 6: Techniques and Criteria for Judging Capacity and Sensitivity', prepared by The Countryside Agency in 2002.

Nine of the potential broad locations for housing (A, B, C, D, E (partial) F, G, H and I) as set out in the Core Strategy Issues and Options 2009 document were assessed. In addition two further alternative areas identified through the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) process were assessed.
